How to fetch tickets from our legacy systems into our Jira setup?

Shilpa Sonkar May 22, 2021

Hello Team,

It's great to start on Jira rollout for our organization. While doing so, we would like to connect this Jira setup with our legacy ticketing system. So essentially we are looking towards an integration between our legacy ticketing system and Jira for not only current and future tickets to be mapped under relevant projects in Jira project boards but also fetching older tickets for the ongoing or older projects. Please let me know how should we go about this?

With Best Regards,

Shilpa Sonkar

@Shilpa Sonkar

You can connect your legacy system by using the ability to connect via APIs.

You can either use any available features in your legacy system to connect to the Jira APIs or alternatively you can use one of the scripting Apps in Jira to connect to APIs in your legacy system if they are available.

Although many folks prefer to simply do a one-off exercise of exporting the content that they wish to retain from the legacy system as a CSV and then import it into the new Jira solution.  See https://support.atlassian.com/jira-cloud-administration/docs/import-data-from-a-csv-file/ for more details on this process.
