How to create Organizations

Hello

I have organizations set up correctly in our Jira Service Management for hardware issues.

However I also have a kanban software project for our devs.

How can I create organizations in the kanban project , so as to review requests based on organizations ?

Hi @Steve Berno,

To extend native Jira Organization features, you can consider using Crumbs.
You can use the newly released Crumbs API + Jira Automation together to link organizations automatically or to populate fields with organization data from Crumbs.

There is a page with screenshots about how to do this here:

Copy customer fields to an issue

Hope this helps! If you have anymore questions or need further instructions you can submit a support request too :)

Thank you , how does this work with existing projects and requests ?

Hi @Steve Berno
Organizations are a Jira Service Management only feature for now (you can find out more here). So, although you can add and see the Organizations custom field into any Software project, you won't be able to add existing organizations at all.
With Crumbs this is possible however as Crumbs adds any existing Jira Service Management organization into its pool of organizations (also called Crumbs customers) allowing for these to be linked to any issue even inside Software projects such as your Kanban Software project. Allowing you to see and filter through the Crumbs added feature "Linked Customer(s)" at the right hand side of the issues, but also making these searchable and filterable via JQL as well.
Please feel free to try Crumbs for free or raise any further questions to our support channels here.
Please see the screenshot attached with the example down below, I hope this helps!

We can send you screenshots and more detailed instructions just by contacting us on our support channels here.

I've installed Crumbs as a trial , ill report back on your support channel

Hi @Steve Berno

Welcome to the community !!

You need to create groups for each Department/Organizations and then create a new custom field of type "Group picker". Add field to the project screens.

Yes sir like this.

Hello @Steve Berno

Welcome to the Atlassian community!

The Organization functionality is a feature available only for Jira Service Management, unfortunately.

Thanks , is there any alternative to allow departments or organizations view in the software project ?

Hello @Steve Berno

Can you clarify what you mean by "allow departments or organizations view in the software project"?

Are you trying to find a way to group issues for your own reporting purposes?

Or are you trying to find a way to let reporters see only the issues submitted by their department?

If you need something for your own reporting purposes, do you need the department to be identified automatically based on who reported the issue? Can a Reporter belong to more than one department?

Hi Trudy, its more for filtering each of the software requests by a standard organization filter.
The organizations in Jira Service Management work , and we do not need the customers to have access to the kanban software project.

I'm not aware of a way to access a Service Desk project's Organization list in a Software project, though one of the other responders had a suggestion about a third party app.

As another responder suggested, you could create User Groups, if you need to associate people with the organizations, and then use a User Group Picker field.

You could also create a simple single select list field and create a custom list of organizations/departments.
