How to change Assignee with Automation using GitHub cloud

Lee Johnson December 26, 2020

I've created an automation that moves the issue to In Progress once a new branch is created. I'd also like to automatically assign the issue to the user who created the branch. In Automation, I've added the Assignee field and set it to "User who triggered the event". I've done some testing with myself creating the branch. The automation works but the case is not being assigned to me.

Thanks

Hello Lee,

Thank you for reaching out to Atlassian Community!

When using the option "User who triggered the event" in automation, the ticket will be assigned to the Actor that is by default "Automation for Jira" and this issue was reported as a bug because it should be assigned to the one who created the Branch.

Please, click on "This affects my team" and also watch to receive updates.

Regards,
Angélica

@Lee Johnson I had the same problem with Bitbucket and managed a workaround.

Please read my comment in https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-Software-questions/Automation-When-a-branch-is-created-move-to-In-Progress-and/qaq-p/1565259#U2245931

I expect GiHub to provide an equivalent Webhook that can sort your problem.

Regards
