How to add flag with comment option in a Next-Gen JIRA Software project

Deleted user April 17, 2020

Hello!

I have JIRA Software, I have a kanban board. When right clicking on an issue I have the option to add a flag, I do not have the option to add a flag with a comment. How can I enable this option?

Thanks muchly in advance!

Matt

Edit: This can be done in Classic JIRA Software, but I can't figure out how to get this working in Next-Gen JIRA Software

This can't currently be done in Next-Gen

Hi Matt - In reality, having the comment box for the Add Flag is simply adding a comment to the issue. So you can add the Flag and then add a comment as normal to the issue. I don't know if the Free version stifles that for some reason or not. It's an extra step but accomplishes the same thing.

Education is the answer here, but a little nudge towards good behaviour is what I really want. It's too easy to add a flag and move on, forgetting to add that troublesome but ultimately useful explanatory comment!

True! Can you post of screenshot of what you see when you click on Add Flag?

Nevermind - I see you said it was Next-gen. No, I am afraid this is not available to have the comment with the Flag in Next-gen.

How frustrating to lose such a useful bit of functionality in a 'next-generation' version. Thank you anyway John :-)

They are working hard to get these kinds of things added to Next-gen - but it's a lot to do right now.

Hi Matt, welcome to the Community.

So if you actually execute the "add flag" (click on it) do you not receive a modal w/ a place to add a comment?

Hey Jack, thanks for the warm welcome!

When clicking 'Add Flag' this simply adds a flag icon to the ticket and changes the ticket colour. Nothing else comes up, no dialogue box etc.

I'm curious as to what is different. can you share a screenshot of your board (entire screen if possible). I don't use flags TBH so will need to dig in a bit here.

Ahh, after noticing the different layout, I realise you are using Classic Software where I am using Next-Gen Software. I suspect this might be the issue.

Yep, just created a test Classic Software project and this behaves as it should, giving a comment.

Is there a way to turn this on for Next Gen?

yep that is the difference indeed. No there isn't a way to enable on NG. I agree that having the comment as part of flagging is best. It give the user the option to skip it if needed but IMO having a comment as to why is often useful. As John indicates you can obviously do in two steps.
