Someone has created an email notificaton set-up that is in error. Everyday I get notifications of cancelled Jiras cases, making Jira less relevant every day.

It depends where those notifications are coming from. Team Managed (next gen) and company managed (classic) Jira projects have a different configuration.
For next gen, have a look at this support article to learn more. Keep in mind that every next gen project has its own settings, so maybe multiple configurations might need adjusting.
For classic projects, notifications are set up through notification schemes. Have a look at this support article to learn more about the setup of those.
Thanks for prompt answer, but it didn't help.
It seems I can't make the changes necessary because it seems an Admin person set this up. If I am lucky I have identified that person.

Notification schemes of classic projects are administered by a Jira Administrator. That is entirely correct!
