How can I see calendar in company-managed software project?

Maneerat Wongjaroenporn June 17, 2021

When I try to create a company-managed business project, I can see the calendar on my left tab. However, I cannot see that on a company-managed software project. How can I get the calendar for a company-managed software project?

Hi,

Can Atlassian simply put Roadmaps and Calendars on JIRA company managed projects. More complex JIRA projects should have access to these tools. It makes no sense to put them on Team projects rather than company managed projects. Is there a technical impediment to doing so?

Hello @JMcDonnell

Your question seems to have veered off from the original question.

The original question was comparing functionality between Business/Work Management projects and Software projects.

Your question seems to be about Company Managed projects versus Team Managed projects.

The Roadmap feature is available for Software projects for both Company Managed and Team Managed projects. It is not available for Business/Work Management project at all.

The Calendar feature is available for Business/Work Management projects  for both Company Managed and Team Managed projects. It is not available for Software projects natively. For Company Managed Software projects the work around I suggested works. That work around does not work for Team Managed Software projects.

Hi Trudy,

I beg to differ. Why is the question above even necessary. Just provide the option to have the functionality in all projects - a simple check box - calendar, roadmap, etc, etc. - pick and mix.

For example, I would like a project with "software project"  configurability - JMWE post functions etc.- the flexibility to build customised workflows. But I want a calendar and roadmap in that project. Why can't I have it?

To say that calendar does not natively ship with software projects - just add it in or make every project a blank project with options to add in what a customer needs when creating it.

Thanks,

Jimmy

Hi Jimmy,

All the configurability you described, except for the Calendar feature, is already available in the Software type project. The JMWE post functions would, of course, require that you have the JMWE app installed.  If you are not seeing that, I urge you to open a new Question in this forum to get help on those specific issue issues.

I recommend that you provide your feedback directly to Atlassian through your Jira Administrator or an Atlassian support ticket, or the Feedback option available directly in the Jira project (if that option is available to you). This is primarily a user community where users get help from other users. It is not the most efficient way to get product feedback to Atlassian.

In my opinion...

(Note that I am not speaking for Atlassian - I am just another user of the product.)

Not all functionality should be available in all types of projects (Business vs. Software vs. Service) because each was designed to serve different use cases and different audiences. The intended audience could be overwhelmed by having access to functionality that does not apply to the intended use case of the product.

Additionally, from a business perspective, Atlassian may choose to charge differently for the products based on the functionality available in them (Jira Work Management vs. Jira Software vs. Jira Service Management).

As for functionality in Company Managed vs. Team Managed projects, the Company Managed projects available in Jira Cloud were born from the development of a Cloud/SaaS product comparable to the self-hosted product. The development of Team Managed projects came later, again with some intention to serve a slightly different use case and audience. It was released at a point where it was deemed to be useful for the intended use cases/audience, and continues to be developed and extended, but was not intended to be release to be identical to the functionality of Company Managed projects.

Hello @Maneerat Wongjaroenporn

Welcome to the community.

That feature is not built in to the navigation pane for the Software projects, but you can

1. Add a shortcut to a modified URL for Calendar that includes the project key for your software project; i.e.

https://<yourURL>/jira/core/projects/<YourProjectKey>/calendar

2. use the Calendar gadget on a Dashboard and reference your software project or other filter as the source data.

Option 1 is confusing in that when I try to modify and access the link it changes from software project to business project. Any idea about it?

@Dishon Victor

You are flagged as an Atlassian Team member. Shouldn't your team be able to explain that?

That is only a display change. The project itself is not being changed. If you navigate to the View All Projects page and set the Product filter to Jira Software and search for the project, you'll see that it still comes up. If you set the Product filter to Jira Work Management (a.k.a. Business project) and search for the project, it won't come up.

The Calendar function is provided out of the box for Software projects. This is a work-around to get at it.
