Hi
Hope someone can help me!
I have made the Component field a mandatory field but I want to give it a default value when creating the issue. Is there a way to do this?
Thanks
Vanessa

The content of your questions doesn't seem to have anything to do with the title of your post.
Which question are you trying to get answered?
Sorry I changed the title (an old entry showed by mistake). I want to understand how to give a default value for a mandatory field when creating the issue
You must be a registered user to add a comment. If you've already registered, sign in. Otherwise, register and sign in.
For Custom Fields a Jira Administrator can modify the custom field definition to set a default value. Refer to:
https://support.atlassian.com/jira-cloud-administration/docs/configure-a-custom-field/
For the Component field specifically you can't set a default value with native Jira functionality, as it is a System field.
If you are open to using a third party app, you could do that with the Adaptavist Scriptrunner Behaviours app. While that app is free, it does require that you subscribe to the primary Scriptrunner app to get required supporting functionality.

I ended up creating a new custom field and will have to do some data updates to use this new custom field
