How can I add Story Bug (sub task) as a Child Issue? How can I change the Issue Type Scheme?

In my integration between TestRail and JIRA, I'd like to push a Defect (Bug) and have it link as a Child Issue under the related User Story.

Currently, I can only put "Subtasks" as Child Issues, NOT Bugs.

My JIRA Admin has already created an Issue Type called "Story Bug" with the Type Sub-Task. However, it is not populating in my project's issue type. There is also no option for me to change my Issue Type Scheme in my Project Settings.

Hi @crvuong and welcome to the Community!

A couple of things I would like to point out. Could you confirm that you are using a company managed project (not team managed)

If that is the case, updating an issue type scheme requires Jira Admin permissions. From your question, it looks as if you don't have them. And if so, ask your Jira admin to add the issue type to the issue type scheme for you.

Finally, when the story bug issue type is added to your issue type scheme, you will still not be able to create it directly when you hit the create button in Jira. Sub-task issue types can only be created as child issues of an issue that is at the hierarchy level above them (e.g story, bug, task). You'll need to open the parent story and choose Add child issue from there.

Hope this helps!
