How To Edit Subtask Estimate & show Correct Remaining Values

Rita Arellano

Hi,

I am so new to automation. So our team uses estimates in time and not story points - not my choice, but that’s the way it is.

I was able to successfully automate estimates from subtasks and have them roll up to the story.

I also was able to automate the remaining value when time is logged correctly.

What I can’t do is let’s say subtask estimate is updated - for example, subtask  was 5 hrs. Then I realized it’s 6 hrs to do the subtask. My remains value still shows 5 hrs. instead of 6 hrs.

how can I fix this?

You will need your automation to run on any change to the estimate field on every issue or sub-task.

I would not bother doing this though.  If you're using the time-tracking for the estimates, then Jira already does this for you - look at the time tracking panel on the issue and you'll see it includes the estimates on the sub-tasks (and there's a tick box to toggle between "include sub-tasks" and "this issue only".

Oh, and it breaks Scrum and Kanban if you are using them.
