Hour Burndown Chart

Hi,

I'm having a problem understanding the 'Team Effort' line on the burndown chart.

The page http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/GH/Tutorial+-+Planning+and+Estimating+work+for+an+Agile+team states that the blue line shows the velocity, that is to say how many velocity points the team is consuming on the average day.

The chart shows the blue line more or less flat indicating constant velocity for the team. Fine.

On this page http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/GH/Viewing+the+Hour+Burndown+Chart Team effort it states that the blue solid line is the total time worked by the team. This appears to be a contradiction to the statement above. Again the line is flat on the chart which, if the defintion is correct, would indicate that the team is not working.

I have noticed that on my burndon chart the blue line tracks the number of hours logged against any JIRA issue associated with the version the chart is tracking. For example, if I log one hour then the blue line jumps up 1 hour on the y axis.

This suggests that the second of the two definitions above is in fact the correct one, unless I have misinterpreted something. How then do I get a measure of velocity?

I am not seeing the contradiction. Velocity is # story points. The second blue line is hour worked to close those stories and achieve that velicity.

Velocity should not be confused with hours. The statistics burndown chart will show the story point burndown. If you open it against your backlog and change to story points by children, you can see a velocity histogram per sprint of your release.
