Has anyone written a categoryMatches() function to be able to filter on Categories?

We need to be able to filter on all Categories starting with a certain prefix.  However, the Category fields is metadata, and you cannot use a ~ to filter.

ScriptRunner has a projectMatches() function.  Has anyone written a function for the Category field?  

Is there another idea on how to filter on Category using "like" or "contains"?
