Filter still related to deleted project

Hi all

I'm trying to delete a filter that seems to still be associated with a project that has been deleted.

This filter is used elsewhere. Deleting it may impact other people's work.

This filter is currently being used by XYZ board.

You'll need to remove this filters associations to the boards before it can be removed.

Some other posts I have seen suggest that you need to permanently delete the project to resolve this, but I don't see a 'trash' anywhere in JIRA from which to permanently delete any previously deleted projects

Hi @RJAS

Board and Project are two separate entitles. Whilst a Board is created when creating a Project from a template, it doesn't then get removed if you remove a Project.

To remove the board:

  1. Go to your quick search bar (top-right) and select it to bring up the pop-up
  2. Along the bottom, select the button "Boards"
  3. Locate the board related to this filter mentioned in the error above
  4. Press the 3-dots icon on the right-hand side of the row, and select "Delete"

Delete the board then try deleting the filter again!

-----------------

If you do need to permanently delete the project:

  1. Go to Jira Settings (cog in top-right corner) > Projects
  2. On the left-hand menu, select Trash
  3. Next to your project, press the 3-dots icon on the right-hand side of the row
  4. Select "Delete permanently"

Hi @Stephen Wright _Elabor8_

Thanks for the instructions, I was able to delete the board this way

What if the board is gone, how do you remove the filter? It is still stating it is associated with the board and to remove the link. But the board is no longer there to remove the association.

Hi @Louise Driscoll

Assuming you can view the filter...

  • Go to Filters on the top navigation bar > View all filters
  • Locate the relevant filter
  • On the right-hand side, select the breadcrumbs (...) > Delete

If the Filter isn't visible, and your a Product Admin, you can also try this...

  • Go to Settings (cog icon in top-right) > System
  • Select Filters from the left-hand menu
  • Locate the relevant filter
  • On the right-hand side, select the breadcrumbs (...) > Delete Filter

Hi @RJAS  - Did you delete the board that it is attached to?

Hi @John Funk

Normally the way I would find a board is to first open the project and then look at "board" on the left nav. The project is no longer listed, is there another way to check if there is a board remaining for a deleted project? Thanks
