I would like to know if there are any plans for JIRA (or other Atlassian products) to provide in-app auto-translation?
Other apps, even social media, like Instagram, offer users the ability to click on "Translate" if a comment or text is in a different language than their user language.
E.g. in JIRA with very international dev-teams and not all members always very proficient in the main team language regularly there will be ticket comments in different languages.
It would be tremendeously helpful if we could translate these with a button click or even have the option to by default translate them and on demand show original.
Are there any plans for this?
Hi @Marc Lehr,
If I select any text in a Jira issue or in a Confluence page and right click on it, I can choose to translate that selection into English. That is - afaik - a browser feature in Chrome, that lets you define the available languages as well.
Being an application running in the browser, I think leveraging browser features may be far more efficient for translating content than building it natively into the application.
Hope this helps!
Thanks for the suggestion, but:
1. Translating more than 1 comment via this at once results in an unformatted/unreadable text.
2. Translating it first (preferably all comments at once) should then allow to use standard browser functions like search.
3. You should be able to translate all comments in the right language and then read them properly in order at once.
Unfortunately the Chrome built in functionality is just little bit better than having deepl open in a separate tab and alt-tabbing.
It does not even come close to built in features that e.g. mass translate all comments and keeps the formatting etc.

True. Having to read through a massive list of comments to get up to speed does not seem very effective either (apart from the translations).
In JSM Premium, Atlassian Intelligence already offers the capability to summarize the highlights from all comments on a ticket with a single click. I can imagine this capability to come to other types of Jira products over time as well.

Unfortunately the devil is in the detail, we are looking for the developers being able to read the history and check/understand all details, not a summary.
But good to know about Atlassian Intelligence offering a summary. Will be taking a look at that parallel.
Still hoping to hear back from Atlassian if the translation is on a feature roadmap or how I can request it as a new feature.
