Epic template creation

I want to create an epic template that can be used by all the projects, making the work easier.

Can you provide more information about what you expect the template to contain?

Are you simply wanting template text and default values in fields that are part of the Epic issue type?

Or are you wanting a standard set of child issues for the Epic, so that the Epic and its child issues can be created repeatedly in projects?

I would be glad if I can get information on both the cases as one of our customer wants a standard set of child issues for the Epic that can be created repeatedly in projects and I want to test with simple template with default values in fields as well.

Are you wanting to use the template for Team Managed projects or Company Managed projects?

You could use the CSV Import functionality with a prepared file to repeatedly create an Epic and set of child issues with prefilled fields in multiple projects.

You could also use Automation for Jira to set up a rule that could be used to create an Epic and its child issues, setting fields as you wish. If you wanted to use this in multiple projects it would have to be a Global Automation rule.

For setting default values in fields for interactive issue creation in Company Managed projects you can set the Context for the fields for an issue type for 1..n projects. This can be applied only to Custom Fields. Note those default values would be used every time that particular type of issue was created in one of the specified projects.

Context only applies to Company Managed projects. If you want default values when interactively creating issues in a Team Managed project that would be done through Project Settings > Issue Types, and again would apply to all issues created for that issue type in that one Team Managed project.

There are also third party apps from the Atlassian Marketplace that can be used to create issue templates. Here is a search for those, if you are interested in investigating them. I have not looked to see what any of them say about being applicable to both Company Managed and Team Managed projects.

a repeating epic template can also be considered a process. You may try Flower, to create epic templates as process models:

Although Trudy has already mentioned that you can use third-party apps from the marketplace, I want to mention that our app Deep Clone for Jira is great for cloning Epic templates including all its Tasks and Subtasks across projects. You can also dynamically set the field values of your clones with our Clone and Edit feature via Jira expressions.
