Disabling users from being able to delete an Atlassian Team

Julia Sears March 13, 2024

Hi, We are using Jira Software (Cloud) and very happy that Atlassian recently merged their 'Team' and 'Shared Team' fields into one new field: Atlassian Teams.  We use the Advanced Roadmaps (aka Plans) and the Teams field allows us to have cross-functional work where an Epic is driven by one team but the stories may be assigned across different teams in our Organization.

However - we have a challenge where the permissions to delete a Team is too open. Deleting teams is a big issue because:

  • Atlassian does not have updates made to the Team field visible in the Audit log so we are unable to educate the user who made this mistake.
  • Deleting a team is irreversible. We have to create a new team and bulk update issues.

Is there a way to disable the "Delete Team" for users that do not have an admin role? In our research, we couldn't find this.  Thanks!

Hello @Julia Sears

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

As per the documentation there is currently no finer granularity on team management permissions. Any member of a team has all permissions to manage the team.

I found a change request on this topic to which you can add your vote/comments.
