Hola @Carmen Irais Mata Rodriguez ,

---

Hello,

Welcome to the Atlassian community!

Can you provide more context to where you are seeing or trying to use the Comment field?

Difference between comment field and comments

Good day community, I have a question, I don't know if anyone can guide me:

What is the difference between the comment field and the comments that we normally add to jira.

Thank you!

Greetings..

Hola!

---

Thank you for that additional information.

These appear to be different screens. Can you provide full screen images so we can see the context of where these are being displayed?

From the first image you provided I think you may be looking at an issue in a Service Management project. And that first image appears to be from the Issue Details view that is visible to Service Management Agents.

I'm unclear what screen your second image came from.

Hello! In comments I refer to where we are documenting the requirement:

And the comment field I mean this:

We would like to know the value of adding information in the comments field.
Thank you!

---

Thank you for those additional images. That is helpful.

If you fill in the Comments field when you are creating the issue, does the information appear in the Comments section that you see after issue creation?

When a Comments field appears in a dialog such as the Create Issue dialog, that generally is allowing you to add a Comment that will appear in the Comments section of the issue. The Comments field does not typically display in the Create Issue dialog, but it is possible to add it to that dialog and your Jira Administrators may have done that.

It would be up to your team and administrators to determine what should be entered into the field and if that adds any value when you are creating a new issue.

The first image is from the comments part once the ticket has been created:

The second comment field is from the ticket creation template

---

Can you show an example of a created issue where the comments you entered during issue creation display is a different location?

It could be that the Comments field in the Create Issue dialog is actually a custom field separate from the Comments section of the issue.

If you fill out the Comments field when you're creating the issue, does the information appear in the Feedback section that you see after the issue is created?

No, that information only remains in the body of the ticket.

In theory then the comment field in the issue creation form gives the same value as the comments section?

Thank you!

You could block out the actual content of the field in the image, if that would enable you to share the screen image. I only wanted to see the field name and where it displays within the rest of the fields of the issue.

If it is truly a separate Custom field, then it may not have any relationship to the Comments section of the issue. I don't have enough information to make a conclusion about that.

You could look at the Custom Fields defined for your system to see if there is a custom field named "Comments".

Due to the information we handle, I cannot send that detail, but it seems to me that this is just a custom field within the form. If it is a custom field, it is only a text box that is not linked to comments, is that correct?

---

That does suggest that it is a Custom field, separate from the Comments functionality available in all issues.
