Hi. Is there possibility to create custom project template or clone already existing?
Currently when I create new project, board has just a few columns, but I want to have it created with another set of columns
Hi @Daryna Verkhola ,
You can create a project from a template.
You cannot create boards from the template. There is already a suggestion request. You can vote and watch for the updates: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JSWCLOUD-6790
Steps to create project with shared config is described in https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/create-a-new-project/
I would suggest, create a sample project, map all required schemes to it and save it with a name (example: Jira software project template). Next time when you need to create a new project, make use of "Jira software project template" as template.
Please note: Projects with shared settings share issue types, workflows, screens, fields, permissions and notifications. Changing one of these settings affects all projects sharing those settings. We’ll let you know if a setting is shared.
While Jira Cloud does not offer a direct “save as template” feature for projects out of the box you can share settings as others suggested.
If you are willing to use a third-party app, you can try our Deep Clone for Jira.
Deep Clone is a powerful tool that allows you to clone projects, issues, and configurations more deeply and flexibly than Jira's native options. It can help you replicate the board setup across projects by cloning the necessary configurations and even entire projects, ensuring that your new project boards have the desired set of columns and settings from the get-go.
We even have a more expansive article on your use case in our documentation.

Hello @Daryna Verkhola
as others pointed out, you can use the 'Share settings with an existing project' checkbox and select an existing project as template. This will use all configuration schemes that the current project (issue type scheme, workflow scheme...) is using, but not more.
What is missing, as you pointed out is, boards, components, version, issues, project role assignment, project description, project lead, default assignee and more small details.
If you are up for third party apps, we've built Project Templates for Jira with the intention to cover those native limitations in cloning projects or creating project templates. In case of boards however, doe to limitations in the API we can only drastically reduce the manual steps by providing the new board filter that is shared with the new project, has the creator as filter owner and filters for all issues in the new project. The app also guides on the missing steps to get the board fully setup.

While you can't create a board from a template, you can always create your own boards, without any additional configuration except the column configuration that you care about, and then copy that board. Then change the filter and you're basically set.

Hi, @Daryna Verkhola
It's possible to clone existing project configuration when you create new project.
It's not available on free plan, but on paid plan must be available.
But it don't create copies of boards, and you need to create board manually. Haven't seen such functionality in Cloud Jira though...
