Connecting Jira Project to Personal Github Repository

Nathan Healea December 20, 2022

Is it possible to connect a Jira software project to a personal Github repository?

I see that there is an option to connect an origination but not a personal repo.

I was able to do this using the olde DVCS Connector (under Integrations), even though it is supposed to go away any day now (they announced deprecation in 2018).

I generated a Client Id and Secret by following the directions here:

I entered my Jira Cloud instance's address as the Homepage and Authorization callback URL, but I don't think it really matters that much.

Once I got the Client Id and Secret, I then clicked on "Link GitHub Enterprise Account", entered in my username (I have a free Github account) for Team/User Account, https://github.com/ for Host URL, and then the aforementioned Client Id and Secret. I got bounced over to Github to authorize everything, and after clicking OK a bunch of times, voila - my personal account was connected!

However I think Atlassian wants everyone to use the GitHub for Jira app. So ok, let's see if that works with Personal Github accounts.

Well, this looks promising:

Yup, was way easier to set up (no need to setup a Client Id/Password)!
