Clone an Epic

Abdul Mohammed January 8, 2024

I am looking forward to Clone an Epic with its child issues and its subtasks in the same sequential order. I want to achieve this without using any App and without Automation.

Hi Abdul - Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

What you are looking for is not possible without an App or using Automation. Is there a reason you don't want to use either of those options?

Hi John, - Thanks for your response.

I work in an environment where adding any App requires a certain level of clearance. Although I see those options in the market place they are not easy solutions for me. So I am looking for a process within Jira it currently has.

With Automation, I have tried it few times and was not successful for cloning the exact tree in sequence at the same time.

Hello @Abdul Mohammed

I want to achieve this without using any App and without Automation.

Good luck with finding that magical unicorn.

Google "jira clone epic" to see just how many times that topic has been discussed before.

Thanks David for the response.

I have tried to google it, here are the few articles that I had come up with. All seems to be old articles. I am just wondering if there is anything more recent.

For eg;

  1. Is there a way to clone ONE Epic so it brings over... (atlassian.com) dated 2018
  2. Solved: How to clone the whole Epic and child issues inclu... (atlassian.com) dated 2021
  3. Solved: Cloning an epic & its stories and subtasks (atlassian.com) dated 2021

Abdul

If you thoroughly read those articles, irrespective of how recent they are, you can come to only one, single, irrefutable, undeniable, impossible to ignore fact, which is:

WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR DOES NOT EXIST.

It is not possible to clone Epics with all their Stories and any Sub-tasks without using a third party app or automation (which is a totally crap method)

which is exactly as John Funk has correctly advised, above.

OK?
