Checkbox list in Jira issue template

Is there a way to add a checkbox list for an issue type without using a plugin?

Issue Checklist for Jira.Free is a free app.

This is not possible without a plugin.

An alternative would be to create subtasks with a very simple workflow (to do/done).

You can use the Checkboxes custom field type.

without installing a plugin you have two options:

1. A subtask with the workflow To-do/Done as @Dave Mathijs  mentioned before.
2. In the description of the ticket  you can add a numbered list with a short description, date, status and owner of that "checklist" item. Once that the owner complete her checklist then she can edit the description and change the "status" of the item of the numbered list assigned to her.

The option 2 is less complex, you do not need extra workflow for subtask emulating a checklist.
