"Also, make sure to review your Open Files limit. Ideally, it should be as close as possible to 32768. Getting the number of Open Files set to your system may vary depending on the Linux distribution. If unsure of how to check that via system commands, generate a Support Zip, open the application-properties/application.xml file and search for <max-file-descriptor>. If this number is close to 32768, adjust it accordingly. This doesn’t apply to those running Windows. Learn more about the 'Too many open files' error"
When I look at the application.xml, I'm seeing the following:
Why is this happening? Should be concerned at this point in time? This is a pretty new instance without much activity from users. It's a QA environment. Maybe these metrics aren't available until the instance is being used more?
Hi @Tom Gross ,
Thanks for reaching out to the community.
The first question I have for you is what OS are you Running the checks on? The "UNKNOWN" value for the file descriptors is the expected value for Windows operating systems and the "32768" value only applies to Linux machines.
However, If you are on a Linux box the document "Too many open files error in Jira server" includes additional details on what files need to be edited to set the value.
Regards,
Earl
