I have around 20 or so projects that I want to include in a JQL query. Now rather than add each project name or key, is there an option to use some other project value e.g. project category? So rather than have "project in (ABC,EFG, ETC)" you could do something like project_category = specific_category_name"
Yes, if you group projects into one or more project categories, you can also search for project category in JQL:
category in (projectcategory1, projectcategory2)

Yes, it is already feasible. See https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/advanced-search-reference-jql-fields/#Category
