Automation to update two fields based on dropdown value

Damon Gaylor March 2, 2021

I want to use this for Service Desk and Classic projects.  I have a customer with multiple markets and I have created a dropdown with a list of markets.  (The image is TW Requesting Market).

Based on the value selected, I want to default in the Project and Project Task text fields.

Example 1:

  • TW Requesting Market: US/CA
  • Project: 1
  • Project Task: BBB

Example 2

  • TW Requesting Market: MX
  • Project: 2
  • Project Task: CCCC

I'm trying to use the new Automation feature, I have not used this before.

Hi Damon,

Have you created an Automation rule at all yet?

You would create a rule based on a Field Value Changed trigger.

Then add a new Condition for If / Else Block.

In the first If, include the condition for if the TW Requesting Market = US/CA

Add a new Action for Edit Issue and set the two fields based on your values.

Then add an Else to do the same thing for the MX value

And so on - adding an Else statement for each value of the TW Requesting Market field.

Thanks John,

That is basically what I want, I just need to get used to the tool I guess.  I could not find the If/Else.  Thank you for the reponse

Have you found it now?

I still can't find that.  Can you give me the menu path?

It's a Condition and not a Branch. :-)
