Automation how to get Epic Name while creating task

Hi

I am having a huge problem of Epic link missing in tasks when creating under an epic without using Create button (already mentioned here https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-Software-questions/Epic-link-field-is-None-when-creating-task-under-Epic/qaq-p/2234403#M241002)

As a work around now I want to simply copy the Epic Name to Epic Link field whenever a task is created. Simple!!!!

But automation is not able to get the Epic Name value when task is created. Here is the screenshot. Please help me how to get the value of Epic Name:

Hi @Vinod Kotiya

This probably isn't working as there's no identification of an Epic here - the Task is not referencing an Epic based on a unique value, or a search parameter:

Two options:

  1. Find a method to identify the Epic - is there a unique identifier each of your Epics have which could be searched for?
  2. Try to resolve the issue in this question - that functionality (adding a child Issue to an Epic from Roadmap, etc) should not be limited to Admins only

For (2) can I recommend you:

  • Try doing this in multiple Projects (potentially create a new one?) - and see if the behaviour persists?
  • Provide screenshots of the actual results a user gets, inclusive of any error messages?

Thanks .. I found that all these is caused by permission and role. I just restored the permission to default and now Epic is linked with the task created. So I don't need automation. It seems we have to rely only on paid 3rd party app even after buying JIRA license to manage access control.

Awesome! Glad you found a solution without the need for a workaround :)
