Automatically update issue description

Hi all! In our company software development is done via back-end and front-end developers which have their own boards I'm curious whether there's an option to automatically update information in parent task in a way child (cloned) tasks automatically update as well? That would save a lot of time. Thanks in advance!

Hi @Shushan Martirosyan , welcome to the community.

There are some missing information here required to give you a quality answer. Could you please describe more completely your used case? You speak of cloning as an example of how data is propagated from the original to the clone. However, that clearly is not what you were wanting to do. so I am trying to understand exactly what you wish to achieve.

it sounds like some form of automation is what you will want to use to achieve your goal. I just don't know how to suggest an answer just yet.

Hi Jack! Sure.

The created story is the parent of 3 tasks that have the same title, description. My question is: is there a way to automatically update information in those tasks if I update the story description?

Yep. here is an example.

One thing to note is that it is often undesirable to have the exact same summary as it makes it a little more challenging to differentiate. If you prefer to differentiate each issue then we could leverage smart values four Setting the summary value. As an example ...

Sub-task {{issue.key}} - {{triggerissue.summary}}

Hi @Shushan Martirosyan -- Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

Adding to Jack's answers...

For your scenario I recommend being explicit about the relationship between those work items by using issue linking, or other parent/child issue relationships.  Otherwise the team is "overloading" the purpose of the summary field, and a simple typo could lead to unintended side-effects.  (e.g., a rule updates the wrong issue).

Kind regards,
Bill
