I'm pretty sure I asked this before but is it possible to assign a team- as opposed to an individual - to an issue? I'm asking because I get a big Yes when I Google it but for advanced roadmaps. So regardless of whether or not team assignation is a good idea, is it doable?
Welcome to the Atlassian Community!
I'm glad to say that Jira does not support the anti-pattern of multiple assignees. It's a terrible thing to do, it guarantees that you will make a mess, and things will get missed or left undone.
That said, there's nothing wrong with adding fields for "and if the single person responsible for getting this done isn't around, then talk to their team". Create a custom field for representing the others who might need to get involved, either a multi-user picker, a group field, or use Advanced Roadmap's team field for it.
Right. Figured you'd say that. Is Advanced Roadmaps part of Jira Cloud or is it a separate purchase?

We've been using a custom single-select field we call "Agile Team" since long before Advanced Roadmaps, and it works great - we can use the Agile Team name in JQL, and we've also created Jira groups with the same names as the Agile Teams.

Currently it is only possible in Advanced roadmaps. You could work around it by either adding the team as watchers on the issue or use a multi select user field and populate it using the GraphQL API to get the team members.
