Are JIRA ticket numbers kept during cloud migration?

Hello,

our company is in the process of migrating our JIRA projects from server to the cloud.

We are worried that migrating the JIRA projects will change the ticket numbers or destroy links to other systems.

Does anybody have insight on whether this will happen during the migration?

Thank you so much in advance! :)

When migrating to Cloud, Jira issue keys are preserved, regardless of issues deleted in between and leaving gaps, so ABC-123 in Server will always be ABC-123 in Cloud after migrating.

It depends. If you have the exact same project key then that will certainly be retained. Then if you never deleted any issues in your server projects i.e. there are no gaps in your numbering then the issue keys will be the same. However let's say you deleted Number eight, then what you will see is that everything above seven will be shifted and buy one...

old: abc-1, abc-2...abc-7, abc-8, abc-9, abc-10....

cloud: abc-1, abc-2...abc-7, abc-8, abc-9....

in the above example abc-8 in Cloud will equate to abc-9 in Server

@Jack Brickey that is incorrect. Jira issue keys are preserved when migrated to Cloud.

Hey - I am running into this same issue. Has any update been done so far so issue #s dont change? Concerned about references to issues in source code or external docs.

Something to keep in mind @Maira Hasan is that although the issue key won't change, any URL references in docs or source code will be broken if they are not updated with the new Cloud URL.

Looking for the same, thanks for asking.
