I have created a manually trigger automation that clones the current ticket, and makes some changes (basically creates a ticket to request documentation update). It works well, and users can click it from the Actions button on the issue details (side note, it would be much nicer if that actions button loaded quicker).
Is there a way I can add the button to a workflow transition screen? The idea is to prompt the user to consider if the ticket needs documentation (and allow them to trigger the automation to create that documentation) during certain workflow transitions.
Hi @Ray Nixon , it isn't currently possible to add the automation as a button on the transition screen. I wonder if your transition shouldn't be triggered on the transition. You can add an action requiring input from the user, e.g. documentation needed question which could be used as a condition in the rule.
Agree completely with @Jack Brickey. Setting the automation to kick off from the specifically named transition is the best way to allow users to initiate the automation.
If you don't want a status change with the transition, simply have it loop back into itself and, if desired, add a requirement or screen to the transition like Jack mentioned.
I am doing this currently to allow approvers to delegate approval to other users. The status doesn't change as approval is still required, but the transition allows users to add/replace others to the field the workflow is checking for approval.
