The Power of Request Type Templates in Jira Service Management

Jira Service Management now offers a new feature - Request Type Templates, aimed at simplifying the process of creating new request types in company-managed projects. This addition benefits both experienced Jira admins and newcomers to Service Management.

Key Benefits:

  • Efficiency: Say goodbye to building request types and workflows from scratch. With a diverse library of templates, you can choose the one that aligns with your team's needs and save time on setup and configuration.

  • Consistency: Ensure standardized request types and workflows across all service projects, promoting a cohesive and organized approach.

  • Onboarding Made Easy: Simplify the onboarding process for new team members by providing predefined structures to work from, reducing the learning curve.

  • Scalability: Scale your service projects seamlessly without the hassle of recreating request types and workflows every time.

How It Works:

  1. Navigate to Request Types: In Project settings, access the Request types screen.

  2. Create from Template: Select "Create request type" and choose "Create from template."IMG1.jpg

  3. Explore the Library: Browse a variety of templates spanning use cases from Finance to HR. Preview templates to see their descriptions and request form fields.

  4. Select Your Template: Choose the template that best suits your needs.IMG3.jpg

  5. Review and Modify Details: Make desired changes to the request type’s details such as name, description, icon, portal group, issue type, and associated workflow. Edit these details later in project settings.IMG2.jpg

  6. Save and Continue: Once satisfied, select "Save," and your new request type will be created and associated with the chosen issue type and workflow. No new issue types or workflows will be generated.

  7. Field Configuration: Once you’ve created your new request type, you’ll land in the request type’s field configuration screen. Here you’re able to continue editing the request form and issue view fields for your request type.

Conclusion:

Request Type Templates significantly reduce the steps and time required to create a new request type in a service project. Whether you're a Jira admin looking for consistency across projects or someone new to Jira Service Management, these templates are a valuable addition.

Embrace the efficiency, save time, and maintain consistency across your projects with Jira Service Management’s Request Type Templates.
