Hello Community,
I can't seem to find many resources on this. I have seen Jira provide use cases briefly in videos and documentation Jira Asset Management being used for simple license management, but while testing it out it seems it just does not have the features for it to be possible. Had a few questions if anyone can help out:
- Is there any way to count the number of licenses being used and are available? I have linked users to their license by referencing the product in a field using a product object type. So, when I look at the inbound references for that product, I see all the people who have a license by looking at the inbound references from that attribute.
- Is there any other automations and actions that people have done to implemented for a license management system using JSM and Asset Management? I am not trying to use it for license renewals, vendor contact info, and more license requests (that will all be done through another system which we will just put a link to in each object for each product). I want to be able to use JSM to create license requests for users, get it approved there, and create an object for the license when it is approved and update how much count of licenses are used and available. I also am trying to make it where when a user comes up to the portal for a request, they can already see if a license for something is available and will not be able to select.
Any information about just anything anybody has used for license management using JSM and Asset Management for Jira, it would be appreciated. I am not trying to use an add on since I am just trying to use this for managing the license count, who has what licenses, and how many we have available. Everything else will be done outside of Jira (renewals, onboarding new licenses for new product, cancelling products, etc.). Thank you all!

Hi @Patel, Shivam take a search through the Atlassian Community, there's lots of posts asking similar questions to yours. I recommend reading through this post as a starting point.
Hi Connor,
I have seen a few instances and took a look at what you sent, but alot of these are not very direct and seem so complicated for such a simple feature. Currently, I am using inbound references which show how many people have a specific license (I attached an image below so you can get an idea of what I mean).
Basically, I am trying to count the number of inbound references. If there is a better method to counting inventory licenses, if anyone could provide that would be appreciated. I just feel that the methods I found are not good for scaling when I have lots and lots of product licenses I have to track. I just want to know what is the most efficient practice based on Jira's capabilities to implement this license management system I am trying to achieve. Thank you in advance.
