The Import components feature does not work for GitHub in Compass apps

Same here! It stopped working a few months ago.

Now when I try to manually import another component, I click the Import button but then the GitHub action says "Configure" instead of "Import". Clicking Configure leads me to the GitHub app page in Compass, where there's a button offering to "Connect". That button leads to the settings for the Atlassian Compass app in GitHub, which is already connected.

What's the recommended way to get this to work again?

I had to reconnect the GitHub app, to be able to import new components. This led to new complications, however, but I wanted to mention it in case anyone else is blocked by this.

@tobiassjosten I hear you - when you're seeing the "Configure" option in your application, and you don't see any option to import in the GitHub app page in Compass, it can be a consequence of a different Compass site being connected to the same GitHub organization, or your current connection not being in a functional state anymore. (I believe this is a different scenario compared to what @Arun Subramaniam-a had already seen.)

If Compass is prompting to "Connect" but inside of GitHub itself you already have the app installed, then you'd be encountering a situation where the "Compass app in GitHub" would have to be uninstalled first (otherwise, you only see a "Configure" link in GitHub that does not redirect back to Compass and doesn't complete any installations.) There's some additional guidance about how to address those cases in this community support thread.

Once a GitHub organization is successfully connected in Compass, the GitHub configuration page would offer you import options at the bottom of the page as follows:

I will follow-up with you in the other thread regarding the import experience, now that the connection to import has been restored.

@Arun Subramaniam-a there was a condition that caused some users to not have a functioning import button for GitHub in Compass. That situation was remediated Dec 10th 2024, so please let us know whether you still need any help!
