Queue edition permission for agents

原口 徹 April 11, 2024

By default, agent users do not have right to edit or add queues in Jira Service Management. If we want to give the right, all other rights of Administrators go together, including quite destructive actions.

Is it somehow possible to allow agent users access to "Manage Queues" ONLY? (with custom permission scheme?)

Hi @原口 徹

I don't believe this is possible; Queues is wrapped up in the Project Admin permissions (natively).

No worries :)

You could make a suggestion for this? You can do that starting here: https://jira.atlassian.com/secure/Dashboard.jspa

Hi @原口 徹

if you're open to solutions from the Atlassian Marketplace, another option might be the app that my team and I are working on, JXL for Jira.

JXL is a full-fledged spreadsheet/table view for your issues that allows viewing, inline-editing, sorting, and filtering by all your issue fields - including all JSM-specific fields - much like you’d do in e.g. Excel or Google Sheets. It also comes with a number of advanced features, including support for (configurable) issue hierarchies, issue grouping by any issue field(s), sum-ups, or conditional formatting.

As every sheet in JXL is powered by either a JQL statement or a filter, many of our customers use sheets as extensions or alternatives to built-in queues. This also has the advantage that you can control your agents' permissions separately, through JXL's own (global and/or project-level) permissions. (This being said, in many cases, JXL's in-sheet filtering capabilities may be a great alternative to setting up multiple sheets.)

This is how it looks in action:

JXL also enables cross-project queues, if that's something you might be interested in.

Any questions just let me know,

Best,

Hannes

Hi,

As Stephen mentioned, natively, there is no way to give access for editing Queues for Jira Agents.

Nevertheless, you may consider trying an app we develop at Deviniti - Queues for Jira and JSM. This app allows you to decide which group (besides Jira Admins) may edit or create new queues:

Of course, this is not the only feature this app provides. The Queues app also includes for instance:

  • cross-project functionality - you may gather issues from many projects in one view (what prevents switching between different projects and tabs)
  • visibility - the queues can be presented for specific groups only
  • grouping queues into categories
  • filtering options.

If you are curious how the app looks in the practive, I strongly encourage you to join our free Product Tour next Wednesday (April 17th) where we focus on Queues app. Please use the following Calendly link to register:

We'll be happy to see you there!

Kind regards,
Klaudia
