Is there a way to create a service desk project without using a template?

Rob Peterson March 28, 2022

I'd like to create a Service Desk Project but not have to use one of the canned templates because it would be a lot of work to change out all of the statuses, etc.  Is there a way to create a shell SD project?

Hi @Rob Peterson

It's not possible to create a Project without a template.

You can share the configuration from an existing Project though, if you have another JSM Project setup which matches your needs in the new one:

  1. Go to Projects > Create Project
  2. Select a Service Management template
  3. Select to create a company-managed project
  4. Check the box Share settings with an existing project
  5. Choose the JSM Project to share configuration from
  6. Give the Project a name/key, and create it!

Note: This doesn't work for the ITSM templates, nor Team-managed Projects (which have no shared configuration).

Any project requires a template. Wouldn’t the general template work? It is pretty basic.
