How to hide an issuetype from creation?

Hello,

   Some of our issue types are no longer being used. To reduce the total list of options in the creation screen I'd like to hide them. I tried removing them from the Issue Type scheme but that doesn't seem to be allowed.

Whats the best way to accomplish this?

The only way to do this is to remove the issue type from the issue type scheme.

This necessitates migrating existing issues to a type that will remain in the project.
