How do you close out a linked sub task but not the 'parent' ticket you linked it to?

I have a task and under the task I linked a couple of sub tasks.  I want to keep the Task open and only close out the sub task.  How do I do that?  I currently have a rule in place that once the task status is updated it also updates the sub tasks.

The issue I have, once i close a sub task it also closes the main task I linked it to.

Thank you!!

  1. Select > Issues.
  2. Under ISSUE TYPES, select Sub-tasks.
  3. Find the relevant sub-task issue type and click Delete.

I appreciate your response, but that doesn't help me out or solve my issue. Thank you

@bestbluegreenalgae  is there a way to do this in automation and if yes, can you supply the steps please.
