I'm creating a workflow in slack in our support channel. I have a button that create a Jira ticket for each request.
When the ticket is created, I want it to send it to a certain Epic/Board. I was told I would have to make a filter and build the board with that issue filter.
Hello,
To send a Jira ticket created in Slack to a specific Epic/Board, you’ll need to set up a Jira filter that captures all the issues you want to appear on that board. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you with the process:
Create a Jira Filter:
Go to your Jira dashboard and create a new filter that specifies the criteria for issues to be included in your Epic/Board.
For example, you can use the JQL (Jira Query Language) to create a filter like project = XYZ AND issuetype = Epic to capture all epics in project XYZ.
Build the Board with the Issue Filter:
Navigate to the board where you want to add the issues.
Go to the board settings and select ‘General’.
In the ‘Filter’ section, select the filter you created earlier.
Automate the Process:
Use Jira’s automation rules to automatically add issues to the Epic/Board/Affordable Care Act based on the filter.
Create a rule with the trigger “Issue created”.
Add an action to modify the issue, such as setting the ‘Epic Link’ field to the ID of your desired epic.
Integrate with Slack:
Ensure that your Slack workspace is connected to your Jira Cloud instance.
Use the /jira connect command in Slack to connect your Jira project to a Slack channel.
When creating a ticket in Slack, make sure it meets the criteria of the filter so that it will be automatically added to the board.
By following these steps, you should be able to streamline the process of sending tickets from Slack to a specific Epic/Board in Jira.
I was able to send my tickets to an Epic/Board by just making the Epic Number a parent. Then assign the Parent inside Jira Cloud the value of the Epic Number.
Thanks Dennis for the help/insight!
