Different approvers for two step approval level

The current flow has two levels of approval and requires 1 approver per each level i.e. Line Manager Approval and Head of Department Approval. 

The challenge is that the Line Manager can approve as both Line Manager and HOD. How can I restrict only Line Manager approves as Line Manager, and next HOD is notified to approve

How did you setup your approvals? I would assume there are in different statuses, correct? I would approach your problem with a workflow like the following:

And on the "send for approval" transition I would add a transition screen for the user to enter the two approvers, the line manager and HoD:

Yes, that how I have defined, But the transition screen isn't giving me option to specify line manager and HOD, however I can mention only approvers

@emmanuel first thing's first:

• You have to create these two fields as user picker field (or multi, according to your needs)
• You also have to create the "select approvers" screen, to which you will add these two fields
• then you have to add this transition screen to the desired transition. From what I see this transition would be from open -> waiting for line manager approval

This resolved the issue and now I can access two-step approvals
