Hey community,

I'm looking for some creative solutions regarding Asset custom fields on Cloud.

We a have a list of about 10 items defined as an Asset but would like to show these in a specific (non-alphabetical order). Going by the documentation

(https://support.atlassian.com/jira-service-management-cloud/docs/configure-the-assets-object-field/) it doesn't look like the ORDER BY is going to be used to provide any type of sorting in the custom field itself.

Does anybody have some creative solution to be able to set a fixed order of the Asset values?

Only things I can come up with (that I don't really like) are:

  • prefix the Asset values with a number  (not a fan as it will break if we ever need to change the order)
  • don't use Assets but set it as a dropdown value

Hi @Dirk Ronsmans

How about adding another attribute "Order" which is a integer and you can then sort by ascending/descending order. Similar to your first option, is only 10 items, so it should not be an issue.

Hey @Fabian Lim ,

I tried that (adding a sorting order of type integer) but on Cloud the Scope of the custom field ignores it..

Ok I C.  Other option is to use a drop down with the asset names.  Then use automation to pick up the correct asset based on the name and put it into the ticket.  I'm assuming you you need the asset information to provide more info.  If you don't, just use a drop down to make your life easier.
