I am just wondering if any of you are backing up assets in your cloud instance how are you handling it? I am thinking of just an api call to get the data and then loading it into a table in a database, but wanted to see what others are doing.
thanks,

Hello for anyone wondering,
I am in the process of building out workflow that uses the api to get the assets and then loads the attributes for each item into a table in our data warehouse. This was the best way I could think of doing it for now.
thanks,

Hi @Wade H and @Ricardo van Calsteren
I have been looking into the issue lately and there is a couple of options. I haven't yet tried them. The tideus way is to move the object schema from one instance to another, with the following steps:
The other option is to try this app: Jira Cloud Backup & Restore App.

Hi @Robert Søndergaard and @Ric
Those seem like pretty good ideas, I also wondered about using the sandbox to load them into as a back up, but I have settled on using an api call to get the data and load it into a table in our data warehouse. doesn't back up the schemas, but at leas gets the data.

Hi @Wade H
I also looked at the Sandbox option, but unfortunately it doesn't copy any Asset data into there so you still have to do the manual schema setup and create an export + import. So I haven't even got the sandbox setup to test as that would require several hours just to get it to the same state as my current Assets data.

Hi @Robert Søndergaard
I agree, the sandbox route would take a bunch of work to set things up for import, since we are not able to import the schema as well as the objects.

What are you looking to backup/restore with JSM Assets?

I am into the same topic rn.
In general we prefer a solution that does not involve additional costs.
A export of the CSV seems to be the easiest one. Maybe this works via a automation. We do have our Sandbox working but as automatic(scheduled) import is still not possible this is really time consuming in the long run.
https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirakb/how-to-schedule-assets-import-using-automation-for-assets-1155466867.html
In the end it might be only that CSV export and that's it. Better than nothing. But without satisfaction.
Or building our own solution.

Hello @Wade H
With Insight Assets Backup & Migration Add-on, you can schedule backup for object schemas using cron expression or basic scheduler.
With the add-on, you can also restore the schema to the source cloud instance, or another cloud instance. Also, you can migrate Asset object schemas from data-center or server instances.
You can check more details in the article as well.
You can try the app and if you have any questions and/or suggestions, please let us know via this thread, by opening a ticket on our Service Desk and we can schedule a demo for the application.
Best Regards,
Nino.

Hi @Wade H and @Ricardo van Calsteren!
All the options above are great!
Adding to the topic, you can try Rewind, that have a Jira Service Management - specific backups:
Our Jira Service Management backups are included in the Jira Backups along with Jira Work Management.

Hi @Wade H @Ricardo van Calsteren,
@Robert Søndergaard has the correct list of options you have, if you would like to automate things, you can use the API's that Atlassian has published, you can read about them here - https://developer.atlassian.com/cloud/jira/service-desk/rest/intro/
Thank you @Robert Søndergaard for calling out the Revyz Jira Backup & Restore app
We have JSM assets backup & restore going into beta this week, our app does a lot more then just backup and restore, if you are open to, we would love to get your feedback on what we have built thus far and our roadmap. Please feel free to book a meeting here if interested.
Thank you
Vish
