changing the default project type

iobeyer June 9, 2016

When creating a new project, a dialog appears to select the project type. How can I change the one which is selected by default? (I need it to be JIRA Classic, not Simple Issue Tracking.)

OK, definitely not possible today. Please vote for it: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRA-61399

I believe there's no built-in function in JIRA to configure this (and I don't see any good use for it for Atlassian to include by default). You can however:

  • Create a javascript to do what you want
  • Hack the core codes

Both are a nightmare to maintain.

IMHO the good reason is usability: People usually assume that the default setting is the correct setting if their use case is the default use case in that company. To change the project type afterwards can be cumbersome, I can tell you from personal experience.
