How to filter through a project backlog

Judy Colonero March 9, 2020

I need a filter like:

project = project1 and assignee = "bsmith" and Not In the Backlog

The "Not In the Backlog" is where I am stuck.  I do not see a field in JIRA allowing me to filter through a specific projects backlog.

Is this possible?

Thank you,

Judy

the backlog is usually defined through a status (e.g. usually whatever the first step in the workflow is called)

So, for example:
project = project1 and assignee = "bsmith" and status != "Backlog"

This would give you everything in Project1 w/assignee Bsmith which isn't in the status Backlog

alternatively you can use statusCategory:

project = project1 and assignee = "bsmith" and statusCategory in ("In Progress")

This will give you everything in Project1 w/assignee Bsmith which is currently in a "IN progress" (i.e. yellow colored) status

Thanks Kara.  We do not have a status of "Backlog".   We only have, To Do, In Progress and Closed.

then your backlog status is "to do".

If you're working in sprints, each sprint is given a value. To find this easily, go to the basic search and find your sprint, then switch to advanced. You'll see then the JQL:

sprint != 123

so:

project = project1 and assignee = "bsmith" and sprint != 123

Although at this point, you can also add a quick filter to the backlog page for assignee = "bsmith"
