How do you change the resolution status in the new JIRA issue view?

Maxim Khokhlov June 17, 2019

In the new issue view, it looks like you can only change the status, but the resolution indication next to it is not active or can't be changed:

while you could easily change it in the old view:

We use different resolution options for the task while it's in the In progress status and is being worked on.

Hello Maxim,

You are correct to say that the resolution field cannot be edited in the New issue view. We have a feature request to implement it in the new issue view created by other customers requiring the same feature:

Ability to set the resolution in the new issue full-view

Although this feature request is still be considered, I would like to mention that it's not a good practice to edit the resolution field in JIRA, so the new behavior of new issue view is more optimal to avoid the common configuration mistakes by users of setting the resolution field incorrectly in the old view.

As you can see in the feedback provided from Atlassian in the feature request opened, the resolution field plays a special role. When the resolution field is populated, the issue is considered to be closed in Jira.

That been said, if you set the resolution field in statuses where the issue should not be considered as solved (Open, In progress, etc), certain features in Jira may be skewed, like System filters, reports, etc.

we recommend checking the documentation about the best practices on using the "Resolution" field and how to properly configure your instance:

Let me know if this information helps or if you still have any other questions.
