What's an User installed App?

Hannes October 18, 2019

Hallo everybody,

I'm a little bit confused of this User installed Apps. Does it mean any User can install Apps in JIRA? I don't think so. Or is the mentioned 'User' = 'System Admin' = 'Custom'?

Thanks for clarify this! :)

Hi @Hannes ,

An app is an installable component that supplements or enhances the functionality of Jira in some way. For example, the Jira Calendar Plugin is an app that shows the due dates for issues and versions in calendar format.

Jira comes with many pre-installed apps (called system apps). You can install more apps, either by acquiring an app from the Atlassian Marketplace, or by uploading an app from your file system. This means that you can install apps that you have developed yourself.

From the in-product marketplace you can use the text field and category menu to filter the apps that appear on the page. By default, the page lists apps that require administrative action. This includes apps available for trial or that are expiring soon.

You can also choose from these categories:

  • Paid via Atlassian shows the purchased apps in the system, whether sold by Atlassian or a third-party vendor.

  • User-installed apps are not included with the stand-alone version of the product and have been bundled with Jira Cloud. These apps can be disabled or enabled. Some modules of these apps can be disabled or enabled as well, although modules that are integral to the functioning of the app can't be disabled.

  • System apps are those that are shipped with the stand-alone version of the product and included in Jira Cloud. These apps are integral to your site's functionality and you should not disable them unless instructed to do so by Atlassian support.

Please refer below documentation for additional details.

Thanks,

Hi, everything you installed from here:
https://marketplace.atlassian.com/
is User installed Apps. This is additional functionality for Jira.

More info: https://confluence.atlassian.com/upm/installing-add-ons-273875715.html

Only Jira administrators can install such applications.

Sorry, my question ist: Why is it called 'User installed'? Isn't it just an 'App' like on IOS and so on?

And in addition: What's an 'Atlassian Connect app'? Isn't it exactly the same?

Thanks
