how many characters allowed in single line text field

Upgrade Jira from 5.2.5 to 7.8

We run a Jira 5.2.5 on a Windows Server 2008R2 with MS SQL Server 2008 R2. We want to migrate Jira to a Windows Server 2012 R2 with MS SQL Server 2017.

Is there any documentation to do it? Or maybe someone who did it on his server?

As far as I know a single line text field is 256 characters long.
