Leveraging new ways to manage your data in cloud

Hello Atlassian Community!

2023 has been flying by, and as we approach the second half of it, we want to make sure you’re in the know about our latest and greatest data protection features. These features represent our investments in ensuring your teams have the tools they need to keep your data secure and available. In the last few months, we’ve:

These milestones will give you greater control over your data and complement the top-notch data protection programs we’ve built right into our cloud platform.

Secure data in the region you trust

As regulatory demands continue to grow, organizations must ensure that data is shared, stored, and processed in a compliant fashion. For many, that starts with data residency. With that in mind, we’ve made tremendous progress in the last six months to ensure that data residency meets the demands of organizations all over the world. We’ve:

  • Added Germany as a new region

  • Expanded our data coverage in Jira Service Management to include components that are powered by Opsgenie

  • Launched data residency in Jira Work Management, the Jira for business teams

  • Introduced and rolled out Singapore as a new region

  • Increased our support for partners with apps that store data externally

  • Extended data residency admin controls to include Marketplace apps that support data migration (currently in EAP for select customers — coming soon in beta)

And we’re not slowing down with 3 more regions on the roadmap and many more on the way!

In the background of this work, we’ve also been making architectural improvements that streamline our delivery and make it easier to deliver new features faster and more reliably. We’ll build all future regions and data expansion capabilities with this approach to ensure that the time to market is faster than ever before.

Move your data wherever, whenever you need to

Data protection and recovery have never been more important. With the number of outages on the rise, organizations need stronger tools to backup, maintain, and quickly restore their data in the event of an incident. That’s why our team is excited to share that we have a number of new and upcoming features that empower your teams to backup, copy, and restore your data faster and more reliably than ever before:

  • Backup & restore command-line CLI EAP, which gives you the ability to download and restore a full copy of your Confluence and Jira Software product data to your local storage. In Q3 2023, we will expand these capabilities to allow you to backup and restore your data to your Amazon S3 bucket.

  • Copy data, also known as cloud-to-cloud migrations, will allow you to easily move data from one instance to another for Jira Software and Confluence. This functionality is currently in EAP for Jira Software and will be available for Confluence at the end of June.

These features paired with existing data protection tools like data security policies and BYOK (bring-your-own key) encryption make it easier than ever to defend your data against the growing risk of cyber threats. To say informed on the latest updates, we encourage you to check out our recently released product updates that are available within admin.atlassian.com or subscribe to our cloud roadmap newsletter.

In the meantime, drop in your questions, comments, and thoughts below!
