As a technical writer, I need this feature so I can display the precise image that does not have a visible text label (usually a software button or icon; and never an emoji) that the user must click to complete part of a procedure step.
This is what the step looks like in a standard editor such as Word or Google Docs:
I acknowledge that when you hover over this icon, the Start tooltip label appears. But the thing is, no-one hovers over every icon to see which one a procedure step might be referring to, right? Plus, my organization's software doesn't provide tooltip labels for buttons.
...and there is no way to delete the returns before and after to get it to work.
So, in the end, it appears that I need to find a way to re-insert this inline image, and all the inline images in my documentation.
Do you have a solution for this? Thanks for your thinks on this.
please check this recent post with some similar request: insert graphic inline with text (atlassian.com)
There seems to be no feature fulfilling your request, but maybe the workaround with custom emoji helps.
This older post Solved: Images inline with text. (atlassian.com) has a link to a feature request solving this, so please feel free to vote for it to increase atlassians awareness.

Hi, when you place an image, you could try to insert your image where your curser is in your text and just hit Space. They wind up as being 'in line with text.' Your cursor should move over and you continue your text. You may have to resize your image.

Very interesting, Stephany, I'm going to try this. Thanks for sharing this. By the way, have you tried this in both the old editor and the new? - - Paul
