Hello,
our company has two Atlassian instances: for example ABC.atlassian.net and DEF.atlassian.net
We have used ABC as our main instance for several years with a lot of Jira projects and Confluence pages. Now we have rebranded back to DEF (this atlassian instance was not used in the past).
So actually we just want to change the product site URL from ABC to DEF, and keep ABC (as described here and here). But this is not possible since the site URL is already taken by us:
Can I delete the DEF instance so the name becomes available and then rename ABC to DEF?
Or should I export/import all content from ABC to DEF?
What do you think would be the best approach in this case? THANK YOU.
Hi @Vinh
Renaming the site will be FAR easier than exporting/importing it.
If you delete the DEF instance, it will take (from memory) 90 days before the name is available again. You can speed this up by contacting Atlassian Support, they do have the ability to free up the instance name sooner, I think they can cut it down to a week or two.
Also you could consider renaming the instance to something that's not related to your company/department/team name. Something that doesn't matter what you might be rebranded to in the future... As you've noted above, you only get 3 renames per instance, naming the instance something else would avoid this issue all together in the future.
I see vi-da.atlassian.net is available! 😂
Hope that helps

Thank you for your quick response and your suggestions! Will contact the Atlassian Support and ask if they can speed this up 😊
I like vi-da.atlassian.net! Unfortunately it's not my own decision but the team's, but I'll keep that in mind for the future 😂

Hi @Vinh ,
Welcome the community !!
If the instance in small in size and with little spaces, then do the export/import of each spaces.
If not, contact Atlassian support for their help/suggestion in https://support.atlassian.com/contact/#/
Please note: there will be permission issues if the users are different in both the instances.
You can also refer the Atlassian guide for some more details: https://support.atlassian.com/confluence-cloud/docs/merge-multiple-confluence-cloud-sites/
