HR Service Automation | Integrating Dayforce with Jira Service Management

In previous articles, I’ve explored various HR applications and the benefits of native integrations with Jira Service Management (Refer to Appendix for past articles). Today, I’ll dive into integrating Dayforce with Jira Service Management, outlining the approach, possibilities, and steps to get started.

About Dayforce

Dayforce is a comprehensive cloud-based HCM (Human Capital Management) platform that streamlines various HR processes, including payroll, workforce management, benefits, and talent management. Designed to enhance efficiency and employee experience, Dayforce provides real-time data and analytics, empowering organizations to make informed decisions and manage their workforce more effectively.

Integrating with Dayforce

To connect Dayforce with Jira Service Management, you’ll need to configure the following parameters in OnRamp:

Dayforce URL: Constructed as follows: https://<host>/<service>/<namespace> (e.g., https://test.dayforcehcm.com/api/CompanyName)

Username: The username of a Web Service user defined in Dayforce.

Password: The password for the Web Service user.

Note: Dayforce Web Services Security Config

Ensure the user has the correct level of permissions. To interact with the Dayforce system via Web Services, the relevant role needs access to the HCM Anywhere feature with the necessary sub-features (e.g., web services HCM read access, field-level access, location access). Refer to Dayforce documentation for security related configuration.

HR Workflows

Using OnRamp, you can now automate common HR workflows, such as:

  • Employee Onboarding and Offboarding
  • Contractor Onboarding and Offboarding
  • Contractor to Full-Time Conversion and Offboarding
  • Employee Relocation or Transfer
  • Role Changes

Using Flows in OnRamp

OnRamp supports native integration with Dayforce, enabling it to pull records based on new hire and termination events. One of the standout features is the ability to create personalized journeys for new hires, with tailored flows based on role, function, or location.

Intersection of IT + HR Workflows

HR use cases like onboarding and offboarding often have dependencies on IT teams. Avoiding delays in user access provisioning and timely laptop assignments can drastically improve the employee experience. Automation is key to ensuring IT teams remain focused on high-value tasks.

With Onward apps, you can automate tasks such as:

  • Provisioning user access in identity management systems like Okta, Azure Entra ID, JumpCloud, PingOne, Saviynt, etc.
  • Assigning roles and group permissions in identity management providers.
  • Automatically deactivating system access based on termination dates.
  • Using FedEx or UPS APIs to automate generating shipping labels.
  • Updating worker attributes, such as emails, back to HRIS applications like Workday.
