Calculated Values in Issue Templates for Jira app: Understand Smart Defaults (part 1/2)

Great news! We can't contain our excitement as we unveil the latest onboarding process for our bestseller, Issue Templates for Jira Cloud. As a Jira Administrator, you can now immerse yourself in a comprehensive, step-by-step learning experience to optimize the app's capabilities 🚀.

Wondering what if you are not Jira Admin? Worry not - we've got you covered!

We have chosen to publish the onboarding process gradually, right here in the Atlassian Community.

Let's take a look at the Smart Defaults feature ⚙️.

Issue Templates for Jira provides an additional Smart defaults tab available in templates (on the right side of the Issue View).
The Smart defaults tab provides a selection, where you can find all fields supported in your project.

From now on, you can edit template fields and fill them with smart expressions. Thanks to that, you are able to access data within Jira easily.4

Steps

You can use smart issues, users, dates, or projects, for example:

issue.reporter.displayName - returns the name and surname of the reporter of the current issue.
[user].accountId - returns user’s account ID.
now + 5d or now.plusBusinessDays(5) - adds a given number of days omitting weekends. Math operations are calculated in UTC.

Note: Smart defaults can be integrated with variables and allow inserting variable values to all kinds of fields -  Fill in the field using dynamic variable.
