Display epics without issues on the board of a team managed project

Kristel January 5, 2023

Hello,

I've got a team managed project with epics and stories. For our specific use-case it is really valuable to be able to see all epics on the board, including the epics without any stories.

However, currently the board does not show epics at all, only stories.

I can get the epics with stories to appear by using the 'GROUP BY Epic' feature at the top left. But this still doesn't show me all epics, including the ones without stories.

Is there some way to accomplish this?

Cheers,

Kristel

  1. Leave your Team board for a moment and SEARCH for issues.
  2. Search the project(s), then checkmark Epics and Stores in ISSUE TYPE.  (You can use Basic Search.)
  3. Click on ADVANCED SEARCH to display the JQL.  Copy it.
  4. Go back to your Team board.
  5. Click on "Board" (top right corner)
  6.  Click on "Configure" in the drop down that appears.
  7. On the very left side of the screen, see sidebar, click on "Quick Filters."
  8. Paste your JQL into the window (with the green checkmark), and name your Quick Filter.  (i.e.  All Epics & Stories).
  9. In the upper right hand corner, click on "Back to Board."  You will see your new Quick Filter.  Click on your new filter to see all of your Epics and Stories.  Use the columns & swim lanes to slice & dice your display.

That was a very quick response, thnx!

However, I've tried it and it doesn't seem to work :-(. Given that you use the terms 'Quick Filter' and 'swim lanes', could it be that your solution is targeted at company managed projects and not at team managed projects (which is what I'm using deliberately)?

The type of project is mentioned in the bottom left corner.
